Hanukkah at Penn - Last Night

What:

Rodin College House is excited to be working with Hillel to provide Hanukkah Candlelighting opportunities in our College House, ending tonight, Wednesday, December 20th.

If you’d like to celebrate by lighting Hanukkah candles, you may do so in the Rodin Lower Lobby during the time listed below. Please do not light candles in your room, as that creates a fire hazard. Please only light candles in these designated locations where the candles will be monitored.

People will be stationed at the tables in each of these locations to help share about the holiday a bit more, explain the logistics of lighting, and join you in celebrating the festival of lights. Feel free to check out the Facebook event for all things Hanukkah here(link is external). We look forward to you being part of the celebration for any or all nights of the holiday! Please reach out to jerwil@sas.upenn.edu(link sends e-mail) if you have any questions.

Rodin College House Hanukkah Candlelighting Times:

December 12th-14th and 16th-20th: 5:30-8:30pm;

What is Hanukkah?

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of th eHoly Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revlot of the 2nd century BCE. Hanukkah is celebrated for eight nights and days, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which this year falls out December 12-20.

One of the ways Hanukkah is celebrated is by lighting the menorah each night of Hanukkah, adding one candle each night to reach a total of 8 candles on the final night. The candles remind us of the miracle of the weak winning out over the strong and as a reminder to stand up for what we believe in. We invite you to marvel at the beauty cast by the flames, sit around and schmooze, and rejoice in the blessings you find in your life.
