From 2002 to 2012 Michele Norris served as cohost of NPR’s flagship news program All Things Considered. In addition to producing other profiles, interviews, and series for NPR News, she has contributed special reports for National Geographic, Time magazine, ABC News, and Lifetime Television. The recipient of Emmy and Peabody Awards for her contribution to ABC News’ coverage of 9/11, she is also the recipient of Dupont and Goldsmith Awards, and in 2009 she was named journalist of the year by the National Association of Black Journalists. Norris created The Race Card Project, an initiative to foster a wider conversation about race in America, after the publication of her family memoir, The Grace of Silence. In Our Hidden Conversations, she uses ten years’ worth of personal stories collected at The Race Card Project to offer a panoramic view of the ways in which Americans see themselves and each other.
